These reflections have been enhanced by our Notre Dame Mission Volunteer staff member, Ross, who is visiting stateside after spending the last year working alongside Sister Katherine “Sissy” Corr, SNDdeN in the Boulangerie Notre Dame in Les Cayes, Haiti. The bakery was started because the community wanted to Thrive. Like all families, they felt a need to create financial stability and mobility for their children.
They wanted to establish employment opportunities and take ownership of them. Since the bakery’s beginnings, the operations have greatly increased and now over forty Haitian employees bake and sell over 17,000 rolls per day! There have been challenges and surprises while getting the bakery on a path to success.
